Every family deserves to stay close when a child is receiving medical care.
SAN JUAN — Ronald McDonald House Puerto Rico has launched “From Miles to Steps”, a fundraising campaign aimed at purchasing the Santurce property where the organization has operated for the past 20 years, ensuring families with children receiving medical treatment continue to have a home close to the hospital.
Since 2006, the nonprofit has operated from a leased property. The campaign seeks to raise the funds needed to acquire the building and preserve a service that has supported thousands of families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
Under the slogan “Bring Them Closer,” the initiative encourages the community to help transform long journeys, uncertainty and separation into just a few steps between families and the medical care their children need.
“From Miles to Steps is an invitation for all of Puerto Rico to come together so that no family has to face a child’s illness without the comfort of a safe home nearby,” said Loidymar Duprey González, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Puerto Rico. “Every donation brings us closer to preserving this space for present and future generations.”
This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Santurce house. Since 1990, Ronald McDonald House Puerto Rico has served more than 25,000 families from across the island by providing free lodging, meals, transportation, emotional support and a safe place to stay near hospitals.
“For us, ‘From Miles to Steps’ represents much more than purchasing a building,” said Mariceli Marina, manager of Ronald McDonald House Puerto Rico. “It means preserving a home where families find comfort, support and the opportunity to remain together while their children receive medical treatment.”
