Financial conclave features expert analysts in fiscal realm
The Puerto Rican Association of Financial Analysts (APAF, according to its Spanish acronym) will convene its First Economic Congress on August 18, 2026, bringing together leaders from Puerto Rico’s banking, finance and business sectors for a high‑level discussion on the Island’s economic challenges and opportunities.
The event, to be held at the Laguna Wing – Royal Ballroom of the Hilton Garden Inn in San Juan, marks APAF’s most ambitious effort yet to create a formal forum for financial analysis, policy dialogue and market insight at a moment when Puerto Rico’s economic trajectory remains a central concern for both the private sector and policymakers.
The scheduled speakers are Banco Popular’s soon-to-retire President & CEO Javier Ferrer, Oriental Bank President & CEO José Rafael Fernández, Banesco President Maritza Abadía, Citi Country Officer Antonieta Pérez, and Financial Oversight and Management Board Executive Director Robert Mujica.
APAF President Juan A. Villeta Trigo described the congress as a space designed to elevate the conversation around the forces shaping Puerto Rico’s financial environment. According to the organization, the gathering will feature prominent voices from the banking industry, corporate leadership and specialized financial disciplines, with the goal of fostering an exchange of ideas that can strengthen the Island’s long‑term economic development.
The congress will explore current trends, emerging risks and strategic opportunities across Puerto Rico’s financial landscape — from capital markets and investment flows to business confidence and regulatory shifts. Organizers emphasized that media participation will be essential to broaden public understanding of the discussions and conclusions that emerge from the event.
Additional details and registration information are available through Eventbrite.
The August 18 forum represents a notable step in APAF’s efforts to formalize a platform for economic dialogue at a time when Puerto Rico continues to face the challenges of navigating through fiscal reforms and demographic pressures, as well as searching for sustainable economic growth.
