San Juan – As the 2026 hurricane season begins, Claro Puerto Rico reaffirmed its commitment to keeping the island connected during any emergency, backed by more than $750 million in infrastructure investment since 2017.
Enrique Ortiz de Montellano, president and CEO of the company, emphasized that Claro’s resilience initiatives extend well beyond hurricane season — they are part of a year-round, permanent strategy.
“Our network has performed through storms and multiple widespread outages, keeping our customers connected when they need it most,” said the executive.
The company’s assets include more than 800 generators strategically distributed across the island, 117,000 gallons of fuel in reserve, specialized technical brigades, and continuous network monitoring systems. Additionally, 99% of its towers and main sites are connected via fiber optic, and more than 730,000 homes and businesses already have access to fiber internet with symmetrical speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps download and upload — making Claro the provider with the largest fiber optic network in Puerto Rico.
“Fiber optic is a critical advantage during emergencies because it does not rely on electricity to carry the signal. As long as the customer has backup power — such as solar panels or a generator — they can stay connected even during outages,” Ortiz de Montellano explained.
The company has also received independent recognition from Speedtest® by Ookla and Opensignal for having the widest mobile coverage on the island and the best fixed network in the market.
