New Puerto Rico Laws Promote Adventure Tourism and Expand Recycling Financing.
Puerto Rico Gov. Jenniffer González signed three new laws Friday aimed at promoting adventure tourism, expanding financing for recycling initiatives and modernizing the island’s trust regulations.
The first measure establishes the Puerto Rico Adventure Tourism Routes, an initiative designed to connect recreational activities and adventure sports across municipalities.
Under the new law, the Tourism Office within the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC)will identify participating regions, coordinate training for certified guides and develop maps, signage and digital resources to help visitors explore the routes.
The second law authorizes the Economic Development Bank to use existing financing programs and available funds to support recycling projects led by private businesses and community organizations.
Funding may be used to purchase equipment, transport and process recyclable materials, and develop specialized recycling facilities.
The third measure updates Puerto Rico’s trust laws by formally recognizing revocable trusts, establishing new rules governing trustees’ responsibilities and streamlining the issuance of certifications through the island’s Trust Registry.
In addition, González signed two joint resolutions removing restrictions on family-owned farmland in Aguas Buenas and Barranquitas, making it easier for heirs to divide and inherit those properties.
