Taipei, June 1 (EFE) – Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said Monday it “makes no sense” to claim that artificial intelligence is destroying jobs, arguing that the sector is actually hiring more software engineers than ever.
Speaking at the opening keynote of Nvidia’s GTC developer conference in Taipei, Huang noted that 30 million software developers currently represent approximately $3 trillion in salaries — and that their AI-boosted productivity triples that output to $9 trillion.
“This is the potential, this is the promise of AI. The number of engineers is actually increasing. People talk about AI reducing jobs and that makes no sense — it is causing more software engineers to be hired,” said the Taiwan-born executive at the start of his remarks.
“The reason for that is very simple: if you can hire a software engineer who can generate $9 trillion in productive work, why wouldn’t you hire more engineers?” he added.
The comments come amid growing concern over AI’s impact on the labor market — fears Huang sought to dispel by underscoring that AI with real productive impact “has already arrived.”
“AI is now generating profits, AI is now generating GDP,” Huang said.
