787 Coffee has earned a major place in the regional specialty coffee spotlight, ranking No. 32 out of more than 4,600 coffee shops across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean in The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops.
According to International Comunicaffe, the achievement goes beyond an industry ranking for the Puerto Rico-born brand. It highlights the island’s coffee agriculture, cultural identity, entrepreneurial momentum, and the farm-to-cup model that has shaped 787 Coffee’s growth.
The company, founded in Puerto Rico, has expanded into a specialty coffee business with more than 30 cafés in New York City, New Jersey, Texas, Puerto Rico, and Mexico City. Its supply story begins at Hacienda Iluminada, the working coffee farm it owns and operates in Maricao, Puerto Rico.
“Puerto Rico has always produced some of the finest coffee in the world. It was served at the Vatican and by the Spanish royalty. Our farm-to-cup brand is officially ranked among the best coffee shops,” said Brandon Ivan Peña, Co-Founder and CEO of 787 Coffee.
International Comunicaffe noted that 787 Coffee stands apart from many café operators because it is tied directly to its own land. Fewer than 1% of coffee shops globally own a coffee farm, and 787 Coffee is among that small group. At Hacienda Iluminada, about 3,000 feet above sea level in Puerto Rico’s central mountains, coffee cherries are picked by hand at peak ripeness, processed using the honey method, roasted in small batches, and sent directly to customers and café locations.
That vertically integrated approach gives the brand oversight of quality from seed to cup while helping it tell a broader origin story. Each serving is positioned as a connection to Puerto Rican soil, local growers, craft, and a team working to bring the island’s coffee culture to a wider international audience.
The recognition was announced at World of Coffee San Diego 2026, where coffee producers, roasters, baristas, and other industry professionals gathered from around the world. The ranking used a dual-validation process that combined input from more than 200 professional coffee judges with more than 200,000 public votes.
787 Coffee also posted strong market-level results, placing No. 1 in Puerto Rico, No. 1 in New Jersey, No. 1 in El Paso, No. 2 in Houston, No. 3 in New York City, and No. 3 in Mexico City.
For the company, the placements reflect both coffee quality and the support of its community. Its loyal followers, known as “caffeinated humans,” have helped amplify the brand’s bold flavors, energetic stores, and unmistakably Puerto Rican identity.
