Event to take place August 18
As Puerto Rico’s business sector faces increasingly severe and disruptive hurricane seasons, the Puerto Rico Minority Supplier Development Council (PRMSDC) is launching a targeted initiative to help companies protect their assets, strengthen their facilities, and maintain operational continuity during extreme weather events.
The organization will host a specialized forum on August 18 at its VIG Tower headquarters in Santurce, bringing together experts whose guidance is designed to reduce financial losses and strengthen long-term resilience.
The event will focus on actionable solutions companies can implement before, during, and after a storm. Marinette Pedraza of Action Cargo Transport LLC will present strategies to safeguard critical inventory and stabilize supply chains when disruptions threaten business operations. Her session will highlight logistics planning that enables companies to continue serving clients even during emergencies.
Rafael Díaz, president of RF Maintenance Services, will address the operational risks that arise when preventive maintenance is overlooked. He will outline compliance requirements and essential upkeep practices that help businesses avoid costly structural damage and minimize downtime.
Architect Luis V. Badillo-Lozano of Méndez Badillo + Ferrer will provide a long-term perspective on infrastructure resilience. He noted that the most effective investment a company can make is one completed before the next hurricane arrives. His presentation will examine how design decisions, structural reinforcements, and ongoing property management can significantly reduce vulnerability and protect capital assets.
PRMSDC President and CEO Francisco Cabrera said the forum responds to a growing need among local companies for specialized guidance tailored to the realities of doing business in a high-risk climate. He emphasized that informed planning strengthens a company’s ability to recover quickly, maintain productivity and safeguard its workforce.
The program will include a panel discussion on common operational pitfalls, high-impact preventive investments and integrated continuity planning that aligns architecture, maintenance and logistics. The initiative forms part of PRMSDC’s MBE2MBE Coaching Ourselves program, which fosters peer-to-peer learning to enhance competitiveness in Puerto Rico’s business ecosystem.
