Currently, 84% of Puerto Rican visitors arrive by air, with Punta Cana International Airport serving as the primary gateway and receiving 55% of travelers from Puerto Rico. Tourism officials also noted that 97% of Puerto Rican visitors say they intend to return, reflecting high satisfaction with the destination.
The roadshow highlighted the continued expansion of air service through airlines including JetBlue Airways, Arajet and Frontier Airlines, as well as maritime connections through Ferries del Caribe.
One of the event’s main highlights was Miches, an emerging destination on the country’s northeastern coast that is quickly becoming a new tourism hub. Officials showcased major hotel developments, including Zemi Miches by Hilton, Viva Wyndham Miches, Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda, Secrets Playa Esmeralda and the upcoming Four Seasons Resort Miches, scheduled to open next year.
The Dominican Republic also introduced its new “Wind & Surf” campaign promoting Cabarete, in Puerto Plata, as one of the Caribbean’s premier destinations for surfing, kitesurfing and other wind sports.
Luxury tourism continues to expand as well, with projects such as W Punta Cana, St. Regis Cap Cana, Amanera, Eden Roc Cap Cana and Rosewood Punta Cana, reinforcing the country’s position as a leading destination for high-end travel and investment.
