San Juan– Discover Puerto Rico CEO Jorge Pérez said the island is heading into a strong summer season, supported by rising demand, international growth, and record tourism revenue.

In the first quarter of 2026, total lodging demand increased 8% compared to last year. Puerto Rico also closed 2025 with 7.9 million room nights sold, up 109% from 2019, while lodging revenue reached $1.99 billion, the highest on record.

Key growth signals

  • Summer bookings: 9% to 16% increase
  • Arrivals from Europe: +17%
  • Arrivals from South America: +28%
  • Leisure and hospitality jobs: 102,500 (record)
  • Hotel tax revenue: over $153 million

Pérez said growth is driven by strong marketing, better air connectivity, and international promotion, leading to longer stays and higher visitor spending.

Market diversification

International markets continue to grow, supported by new air routes and stronger connections to Latin America and Europe.

He noted that global factors such as geopolitical tensions and economic conditions could affect the industry, but Puerto Rico remains in a strong position.
